A shop on Upper Serangoon Road – which purported to offer facial care services – came under the scrutiny of police officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division.
Over the weekend, police raided the shop and arrested four women and two men suspected of carrying out vice-related activities there.
The four women are aged 27 to 33, and one of the men is the shop owner. The other man was arrested for possessing obscene material, police said in a media statement.
Cash amounting to S$1,455 and transaction records were seized.
Initial findings showed that the shop advertised its illicit activities in the newspapers and online forums.
The operation is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on vice activities, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Keok Tong San, who is Division Commander, said in the statement.
The Women’s Charter in Singapore states that any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person will be jailed up to five years and fined up to S$10,000 when convicted. Repeat offenders will be caned.
Investigations are ongoing against all suspects.
